ERC - Pech And Uhel Have Won The Púchov Rally For The 6th Time
Apr-15 2007 / 21:58 EDT

Leszek KuzajThe 38th Rallye Matador Tatry has finished. This rally is one of the most important rallies in Slovakia. The rally was a part of the FIA European Championship – Central Zone with the highest coefficient of 10, FIA Central Europe Zone and TEMPUS RALLY Championship of the Slovak republic 2007. The ideal conditions and the sunny weather attracted a lot of spectators. In total 48 crews form 6 European countries took part in the competition. The rally was 755 km long, of which 221 km were the special stages. This year the Rallye Matador Tatry was held also in Bojnice, around which 12 special stages of the first leg took place. A fight between Pech and Kuzaj was expected in the production cars category . The Czech crew was 11 seconds ahead after the 5th special stage and at the end of the first day they were 13.8 seconds ahead. In the single-axle drive cars category Jozef Béreš jr. was a favourite. He won this category and was 3rd in the total results. Donchev from Bulgaria had bad luck in the second SS Uhrovec where he crashed into a deer, damaged the front bumper and cooler. He had to retire for the first day. He took advantage of the Super rallye system and took part in the second leg. Also Václav Arazim got out of the road and retired because of a big time loss.

Special stages of the second day too place near Púchov. There were 12 of them again and were 103 km long. The absolute winner of the 38th Rallye Matador Tatry was the Čedok Slovakia Rallye team crew Václav Pech and Petr Uhel (Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX) who has won this rally for the 6th time. Their biggest challengers, Leszek Kuzaj and his co-driver Jarek Baran (Subaru Imprezza STi), were losing 13.6 seconds after the first leg. The second day was the end of their ambitions. He had to stop because of dust during the city circuit and that cost him a few seconds. Kuzaj was on the 2nd place in the total results. In the production cars category Karel Trojan and Miroslav Jandík (both Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX) fought for the third place. Karel Trojan and his co-driver Petr Říha won this fight and were the third. Miroslav Jandík and his co-driver Radim Chrastecký /+6.7sec/ were the fourth. The third fastest driver of the second day was Jozef Béreš jr. and Petr Starý (Renault Clio S1600). They also had a defect during the city circuit, where he lost more than a minute, which jeopardized his total result. He therefore was the fifth. Fortunately he was fast enough to win his category because of Grzyb’s problems. In the A6 category (single-axle drive cars) Gregorz Grzyb (Suzuki Swift S1600) was the second with the loss of 3:50 min. As was expected Antoním Tlusťák and Jiří Volf (Suzuki Ignis S1600) were the third in this category. According to the organizers, the competition was fine.

Peter Szcecina: “There were no bigger problems with the organizing. All the crews have arrived to the finish, which is most important. We are also pleased that the weather was nice. We are satisfied. Not it’s time to start preparing the next-year competition.” The next event is Rally Bratislava which will take place at the beginning of June (2nd – 3rd June 2007).
